Kim Beumer and Chris Huey
The Grinnell has the feel of the city. Frederick Grinnell, an early pioneer of fire safety who created the first automatic fire sprinkler, had his company’s offices in the building. The Grinnell Lofts are the newest incarnation of The Grinnell Company which was founded in 1830. The structure was largely gutted when it was turned into residences. Frederick would be shocked to see the building’s roof-top deck with city views, and all of Inman Park’s unique restaurants and shops.
Chris and his fiancée Kim bought the condo last August. With Chris’ wish to get away from the traditional lifestyle of suburban living, Kim, an interior decorator and faux finisher, transformed the space into a high-tech urban loft—with deft attention to detail.
Kim used plumbing fixtures, metal bars and construction materials to provide a contemporary “loft-like” feel. She applied a silver, faux finish to the hallway wall, which highlighted the pictures hanging on the opposite wall. Kim’s metal-accented walls and the use of colors warm up the large open spaces.
When you enter through the barn doors, you will find the master bedroom with its faux finished brick and wood walls and objects Kim collected while living in South Africa.
Grinnell 205, Kim and Chris’ in-town home, provides modern comfort in a convenient location, Inman Park—Atlanta’s first planned suburb
